5/6YO Softball
Equipment
1. Our club provides game balls and a batting tee if requested.
2. ALL bats must have the ASA 2000 Certification Mark, ASA 2004 Certification Mark, or ASA 2013 Certification Mark. Use of any other bat results in an out called. This is treated as a dead ball where runners return to the base prior to the struck ball.
3. All batters are required to wear a batting helmet with attached facemask.
Before the Game
1. Games and practices will be cancelled due to weather on the decision of the league. We will provide 48-hour notice on rescheduled games.
2. Unless playing on turf, teams cannot warm up on the infield prior to the game in foul or fair territory. They must warm up in the outfield. We do this to preserve the dirt surface.
3. Teams are to be in the dugout area ready to start the game 5 minutes prior to the scheduled game start.
Field & Game Limits
1. Time limits are 60 minutes from scheduled start time. If you start late, the game end time is still one hour from the scheduled start time. Coaches may end games early.
2. A coach will attempt to pitch to each batter from a short distance and usually from one knee. If the batter is unsuccessful at five pitches, a tee is used. Kindly, what we see at our youngest ages is a desire to have the coach pitch and doing that won't help swing development. Coaches are throwing where the player is swinging.
3. A player hitting the ball to the outfield may advance another base past 1B as can the runners in front of the batter. Runners may advance one base on balls hit in the infield.
4. Outs result in the player returning to the dugout. While outs are removed in 6YO, this does not stop the inning at 3 outs. See #5 below.
5. Teams bat no more than 8 players per inning. The last batter is to run around the bases to home plate.
Player Participation
1. Teams must bat all players and use free substitution.
2. If you have more than 9 players, no player is to sit two consecutive innings on defense.
3. Players arriving after game time will be placed last in the batting lineup order.
Score keeping
1. We do not keep score at this age division.
Player Positioning
1. All players are to be placed in one of the following 9 positions – 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, P, RF, RCF, LCF, LF. If you have more than 10 players, additional players may be placed in the outfield. We suggest one of the assistants or parents take the more than 5 outfielders to the corner of right field and practice grounders, short toss, etc.
2. The pitcher must wear a face mask/guard but must only be their face mask/guard.
3. The outfielders must be in the outfield grass. The outfielders must be positioned behind the start of the outfield grass until the ball is hit.
