To share our decision making on the weather, we have a weather policy that we follow. We use weather.com to help us. We review weather forecasts at that site, when it is this hot, multiple times per day. If we are below the threshold (feels hotter than 104), we will continue to schedule. If we are above it, we won't. Generally, if the threshold is exceeded during the day, it is likely to exceed or be too close at 5:00 to keep as scheduled. Yesterday was projected for today (09/03) to 'feels like' 106 in the afternoon, hotter than any day this week. It has been actually lower than forecasted. Considering tonight is heading into a holiday break and some teams were struggling for players, we chose early this morning to go ahead and cancel games.

Practices and games are different. In practices, you can limit activities, take more frequent breaks and not wear catcher's gear. So that is why practices will sometimes continue when games won't. 

If we cancel the 5:30 games, we will almost always cancel the second game for a few reasons as it relates to umpires, workers, players arriving early for their later game, etc.

Specific to this week, the forecast for the week has been to get hotter throughout the week. We did not cancel Tuesday because we were below the threshold. We canceled games last night because it was projected to be slightly hotter than the previous day and we only had two games. And then today was to be the hottest day of the week so we canceled.

We receive complaints when we don't cancel and we receive complaints when we do.
