Recreational Softball

We offer recreational softball across spring, summer and fall seasons. Any player registering for rec softball will be placed on a team. In rec baseball, all players are in the batting order. We start keeping score at 7YOs. Our rec softball program uses the player age as of 09/01/26 for which division in the fall 2026 season, spring 2027 season and summer 2027 season.

REC Softball Format

1. For the 5/6YO age division, teams may participate in the county league hosted by WCPR or coaches, as a group, can choose to have all games in-house (only BW vs BW at Crockett Park). Using the county league rules if in the county league, a coach will attempt to pitch to each batter from 27’. If the batter is unsuccessful at three pitches, a tee is used. Batters may immediately use a tee if desired. We schedule 12 league games for this division in the spring and 8 league games in the fall. Once games start in the spring, teams do not have further practice although coaches may request some additional practice times. In the fall, since there are only weekday games, teams will have weekly practices. At the end of the season, each player will be provided with a participation award.
2. For the 7/8YO division, this is coach pitch play where the pitching distance is 35' away from home plate. An adult coach pitches to players. Teams play with four outfielders. We do use adult umpires, and we do keep score. We do host a single elimination end of season tournament for this age division. We schedule 12 league games for this division in the spring and 10 league games in the fall. Once games start, teams have one scheduled practice per week. This division plays in-house with only Brentwood playing Brentwood (teams).

3. For 9/10YO, this is kid pitch play with the pitcher rubber at 35'. This division is in the county league hosted by WCPR. WCPR sets the rules, the schedule and provides all umpires. Score is kept. WCPR hosts a single elimination end of season tournament for the spring season. WCPR schedules 12 league games for this division in the spring and 8 league games in the fall. In the spring, games are on Thursdays and Saturdays. In the fall, games are only on Thursdays. Once games start, teams have one scheduled practice per week.

4. For 11/13YO, this is kid pitch play with a pitching rubber at 40'. This division is in the county league hosted by WCPR. WCPR sets the rules, the schedule and provides all umpires. Score is kept. Creating Team Rosters

We create rosters based on parent requests, then consider neighborhoods, schools and comparable skills if possible. Many of our teams are returning teams that want to stay together for the next season. So we allow that. That doesn't always make teams at a similar skill level. And our approach may lessen the team options to place a player if you are a first time player with us.  Where possible, we will schedule like teams against each other during the regular season.

Parent Help

1. Get your player to all practices. Get your player to all games at least 15 minutes prior to the start. Work with your player at home. Coaches are limited to a weekly practice and that time is a small part of helping your player get better. 15 minutes a day at home - playing pitch, talking about positioning, hitting plastic balls or off a tee, etc. - will do wonders for your player. And if your player is new to the sport, practice at home is a must. Let your coach be the coach during games. Your shouting of instructions may not align to the coach. Remember the coaches are parents that volunteered to help a bunch of kids that are not their own. Volunteer and get involved. Help in the dugout. Help in practices. Ask the coach where you can help.
